How To Perform A Porocity Test  

A very simple test to ascertain the Porosity of your stone. 

IMPORTANT: The area/tile has to be untreated in any way and completely cleaned of any residues, such as, cleaning solutions and or seals/treatments

Apply water (teaspoon full) and time how long it takes for the water to be absorbed into the surface

Low Porosity – If water does not absorb for 1 hour or more: 2 coats of sealer would be required – assuming normal conditions.

Medium Porosity – If water is absorbed in under 15 minutes: 3 coats of sealer would be required – assuming normal conditions.

High Porosity – If water is absorbed in under 5 minutes: 4 coats of sealer would be required - assuming normal conditions.
